Hi, I am about to start a company, that makes great software for Mac computers. Here is the long term goal for this company. I hope this concept will attract great-hackers. Tell me how to improve this document.

Visioning a Magic Software Factory

Creative people want to create what they desire without too many obstacles. The easier it is to realize dreams, the better.

We make the easiest toolbox for creative people.

How easy?

  • » aligned with "don't make me think"
  • » fast to create things
  • » feels good
  • » not slow
  • » not ugly

Whats in the toolbox?

  • » web design tools
  • » photo manipulation tools

Which creative people?

  • » web designers
  • » graphics artists
  • » programmers

The workplace must be well functioning both socially and professionally. A forum for friends that creates things which users like. This would keep me (Simon Strandgaard) and hopefully everybody else motivated.

Employees must feel they are contributing to the success. Its a place where you feel motivated and valued no matter your skills. The manager's function is not to make people work, it is to make it possible for people to work (see Peopleware). Releases must be celebrated!

We use sensible work procedures (pragmatic programmer + agile developer + ship it). We aim for measurable solutions, so that: customers can see that their requests is being taken care of, and that our employees can feel progress. Lets not forget dedicating time for things which is "Important but not urgent".

Ethically correct. Policy for preventing stress. 37 hours per week. Good hire. An easy accessible work place so everybody has little commute. Located near eating places, supermarkets, fitness club, bars. Possible to work at home. Flexible working hours. Nice rooms. Adjustable tables. +2 big displays. Super keyboard. Super office chairs. Aircondition. Payment for overtime, courses, travels, phone bills, insurance. All this to make our employees stay, they are in spite of everything those that decides our fate.

We encourage dialog. Training employees in giving critisism and recieving critisism, results in fast feedback so one can develop their skills, keep up a good team, think new, solve conflicts, etc.

Not a product that nobody wants. Not vaporware. Not spyware. No bloat. No exploitation of employees. No projects driven by economy-freaks which lacks insight. We want no evil nor pain!

Okay back to reality. My current situation is far from what the vision describes. I have a product that nobody wants. My economic situation is not good. I am the only employee right now, so there is no "we" (my friend Dennis Hansen will hopefully join in when his economic situation get better). I don't have 2 displays.

I am working hard to turn my product into something that customers sees can give them benefits. The product will probably remain secret until June 2007. There is still a lot of hard work with the user interface, but the core logic is in place.

I will keep you posted about this vision thing.
